Survey: 69% of Thais Support Legalizing Online Gambling and Casinos

A survey published on Monday, January 26, 2025, found that most Thais oppose Bangkok’s plan to legalize online gambling. Thailand may allow foreign investment and tourism after this legalization.

Bangkok approved RUU to build a complex casino and online gambling facility this month. Today, Thailand’s government-regulated legal gambling is pacuan kuda and lotere. However, in society, skor sepak bola, sembunyi, and lotere are becoming popular and lead to large sums of money in this game.

The National Institute of Development Administration found that 69 percent of respondents supported legalizing internet gambling and 59 percent did not believe there was a complex barrier to gambling and casinos. 29 percent of respondents cite complex casino and online gambling. Thai neighboring countries including Cambodia, Singapore, the Philippines, Laos, and Myanmar have large casinos. Thailand’s government can generate revenue and won’t limit its potential.

Thai billionaire Thaksin Shinawatra is one of the people that helped legalize illegal gambling. Legalizing online and casino gambling might boost national income by 100 billion bath per year.

Thai PBS World reports widespread illegal gambling. On December 13, 2022, five people were arrested in an internet gambling network. The Police Division of Technology Crime Prevention (TCSD) reported that the gambling network was present in 13 Bangkok and Chiang Rai locations.
