Preventing Gambling and Telecom Fraud in China, Thailand, and Myanmar
On Monday Chinese Foreign Ministry Spokesperson Guo Jiakun stated that China is actively involved in bilateral and multilateral cooperation with Thailand, Myanmar, and other countries to effectively prevent lawbreakers from crossing the border to commit crimes and end the scourge of online gambling and telecom fraud.
According to Guo, a series of crimes, including gambling and telecommunications fraud, have disrupted the normal exchanges and cooperation between regional countries and imperiled the lives and property of citizens of pertinent countries, such as China and Thailand, at the Thailand-Myanmar border.
He stated that the enforcement of such offenses is a tangible illustration of China’s commitment to its people-centered philosophy, and that it is imperative to prioritize the shared interests of regional nations.
“China is currently engaged in bilateral and multilateral cooperation with countries such as Thailand and Myanmar to address the symptoms and root causes of the issue, prevent lawbreakers from crossing the border to commit crimes, and put an end to the scourge of online gambling and telecommunications fraud. This is being done to ensure the safety of people’s lives and property, as well as to maintain orderly exchanges and cooperation between regional countries,” Guo stated. He also stated that the Chinese Foreign Ministry will continue to collaborate with relevant departments to provide guidance to overseas embassies and consulates on how to appropriately handle related consular assistance cases and make joint efforts to ensure the safety and legal rights of Chinese citizens abroad.
